NHRA license information...
NHRA requires a competition license for all riders running under 9.99 seconds in the ¼ mile.
Unlike IHRA, NHRA requires a physical exam every two years for all licensed riders to
ensure that the rider is healthy enough for competition.
If you do not have your NHRA competition license yet, it is easy to get. After obtaining
approval from your doctor (physical exam and completed medical form), bring the medical
form and license application to any NHRA track and perform the 6 required test runs. After
successful completion of all required runs, a track official will sign off on your application,
then you simply mail everything to your NHRA Division office.
Test runs are only required on the first application. Renewal riders are not required to
perform test runs again unless the license has lapsed for over one year.

May 24, 2010 – Pearl is back in the winner’s circle in 2010
The Newport, Maine racer and 2009 NSA Champion picked up where he left off last season
by qualifying his Bangor Motorsports Pro Stock in the number one spot at the 2010 NSA
season opener. Pearl stayed consistent
throughout the day to win his third National
Speed Association event.
NSA Veteran racer Kevin Zucco (Agawam,
MA) earned his first ever final round
appearance with some excellent reaction
times on Saturday. Zucco was on his game
at the NSA Season Opener - .074 in the
first round against Ed Armstrong (Holyoke,
MA), .066 in the second round against Dan
Meyer (Gray, ME) and .079 in the semi’s
against John Evans (Ossining, NY) –
proving a well-deserved effort by the father
son team.
Kurt Thomas, Jay Pearl & Carter Pearl Bangor Motorsports - Winner 5/22/10
|
In the final, Zucco had a better reaction time than Pearl, but Pearl’s MRE 1000 engine had
the horsepower to drive around Zucco at the top end of the track.
Pearl had a bye in the first round, and overpowered Ken Lund (Brunswick, ME) in a very
close race in the second round. Pearl also defeated Kristin Stanley (Gray, ME) in the semi’s
as she suffered from engine troubles.

Saturday May 22nd for a great day of
racing. Newcomer Steve Oxley made the trip
from Carmel, Maine but suffered electrical
issues in the first round of qualifying, ending
his day early. NSA newcomer John Evans
(Ossining, NY) had his B+F Racing Ski-doo
Pro Stock flying as he earned the number
two qualifying spot at the Season Opener,
but suffered a belt issue in the semi’s against
event runner up Zucco.
The next NSA points event is scheduled for
June 12 at New England Dragway in Epping,
New Hampshire. This will also be the first of
three points events in the Wahl Challenge
series.

June 13, 2010 - Second points race a wash out
Unfortunately Mother Nature got the win over the weekend as Race 2 of the NSA
Championship points series was rained out. Showers were the theme for most of the day.
The New England Dragway staff worked diligently to dry the track in the afternoon, but the
final round of showers came in the early evening hours which ultimately ended all possibility
of a comeback.
This would have been the first points race in the 2010 Wahl Asphalt Challenge series which
will be rescheduled to the last three NSA races of the season.
The Wahl Asphalt Challenge will now be comprised of the following three race dates:
July 17 - August 7 - Sept 12

July 18, 2010 – Hamel earns first NSA Pro Stock event win
Brian Hamel (S. Hadley, MA) earned his first ever NSA event win on Saturday July 17th at
the Night of Thrills show at New England Dragway.
Hamel qualified the A2Z Race Engines Pro Stock in the number one spot. Dan Zering, co-
owner and tuner on the team, made the right changes in qualifying and maintained that
quick setup throughout the day.
Twelve race teams were in
Epping, New Hampshire for the
third points race of the NSA
season. Unfortunately the day
got off to a late start as the
track personnel worked into
the early afternoon in the
90-degree heat to dry the top
end of the track. Heavy
downpours on Friday night
soaked the track and
uncontrollable weeping in the
shut down area prevented ¼
mile racing on this day.
Hamel had some tough riders
to beat on race day. He had a
close first round against Dale Swartwout (Saratoga, NY) as Swartwout cut a better light but
Hamel drove around him with the quicker sled. Hamel also battled a tough second round
when his reaction time slipped a bit. His opponent, Ricky Romano (Poland, ME) had an
outstanding light, but would suffer the loss to the quicker A2Z sled. Hamel had a bye into
the final round where he met Dan Meyer (Gray, ME). Meyer's sled stumbled off the line
and succumbed to the consistently quick Hamel/Zering team.
Hamel and the A2Z Racing team scored a huge payday taking home $2750 for the win.
The team also posted the quickest ET
5.313 and top speed 130.78 mph of
the 1/8th mile event.
As a result of the win, Hamel now leads
the Wahl Asphalt Challenge and
moved from 11th to 2nd in the NSA
Championship points series.
The next NSA points event is the MSD
Asphalt Challenge on August 7 at New
England Dragway in Epping, New
Hampshire. This event will also be the
second of three points events in the
Wahl Challenge series.
August 14, 2010 – Pearl gets second win of season, Stanley sets new MPH Record
The National Speed Association sled series enjoyed an awesome day of racing on Saturday
August 7th at the MSD Powersports sponsored Pro Stock 1000 event at New England
Dragway. The weather was fantastic for racing with temps in the mid-70’s and no threat of
rain in sight.
The Bangor Motorsports team of Jay Pearl and Kurt Thomas went the distance to enjoy their
second win of the 2010 season. The Veteran rider and crew chief qualified their Arctic Cat
night testing. The team from New York had their A2Z motor rocking and ran a personal best
8.378 ET and 154.71 mph in eliminations. Marsh beat fellow A2Z racer Brian Hamel (South
Hadley, MA) in the first round, Jeff Cullen (Gray, ME) in the second round and Ken Lund
(Brunswick, ME) in the semi’s.

Powersports sponsored event, besting
Dale Swartwout (Saratoga, NY) in the
first round of eliminations and Ed
Armstrong (Westfield, MA) in the second
round. Pearl benefited from a bye in the
semi’s where he met eventual runner up
Scott Marsh (Highland, NY).

Marsh and Eric Conklin qualified their

Kristin Stanley (Gray, ME) set a new National
MPH Record at the MSD race with a
phenomenal 157.14 run in the second round of
qualifying. Her MRE powered PCS Performance
Pro Stock was definitely flying.
With the win, Pearl took a huge jump in the NSA
Championship points and took over the lead in
Wahl Challenge series.
This was a great day of snowmobile drag racing
where the fans witnessed a new National
Record and a closely matched final from two
very competitve sleds.
Pearl went home with a new MSD 75301
Digital-7 Programmable ignition and $1,750
for the win. Everyone in the NSA series would
like to thank MSD Powersports for sponsoring
the race. MSD is a powerful supporter in all
forms of racing and we are pleased to have
them on board.
August 10, 2010 - NSA teams up with LoSciuto Productions
The NSA Pro Stock sled series teamed up with LoScuito Productions at the MSD
Sponsored asphalt race on August 7 to film a story on heads up asphalt racing. Willie
LoSciuto, the videographer from Saco, Maine had a great time at New England Dragway
filming the sleds on the track, catching the action in the pit area, talking to series sponsors
and interviewing several NSA racers.
The segment was filmed for Mainely Motorsports TV and aired on Wednesday August 11.
Mainely Motorsports TV is a weekly television show covering all forms of racing in and
